Island Rain
Spiked Sparkling Seltzer
Working with Omaha Brewing Company offered an opportunity to learn about the craft brewing market, explore package design, and be part of a larger family always working to improve the brand. COVID hit the craft brewing world hard and saw many brewers switch gears to begin producing other products to help ease the financial pain. During the previous year, Omaha had begun a switch to the high-profit-margin business of spiked seltzers. Island Rain was to be the brand that took Omaha Brewing Company into the future and I was lucky enough to be the designer in charge of its creation.
Remember Where You Came From
One of the key points made by Omaha was that they wanted Island Rain to be separate from the existing brand image of the brewery. I was worried that removing all ties to the current brand might alienate their current audience. Therefore, I incorporated easily recognizable visual elements into the new design showing respect for its parent company while targeting a new audience.
Logo
The new logo is inspired by island and beach-themed typography while subtly incorporating elements that are easily distinguishable by those familiar with the brewery’s brand, but not key to understanding the Island Rain brand.
Clean and Crisp
A clean and crisp can design compliments the logo establishing a design language that not only targets a younger audience, but also appeals to current enthusiasts. A consistent use of color helps consumers easily identify five flavors offered.
The minimal use of color, future-proofs the artwork allowing Omaha to move the design onto aluminum substrate once the brewery is ready for mass production of their seltzer.
Recognition
From a client proud of their product, international sales, happy customers and, yes, a few awards, Island Rain has seen every sort of success.
