Reflecting on the Past, Looking to the Future
I had this idea last week after I cut my hair as I thought I kind of looked like my father, but I needed to order a remote shutter switch to be able to take the photo. I received the switch on Saturday, and with that in hand, I took several shots with my father’s college photo. At the end of the shoot I wasn’t too confident in what I took but liked this photo when I began to sort through the shots. A combination of two photos, one over the shoulder and the second the reflection, combined in Affinity, this photo captures my frame of mind this week as I look towards what my future may hold and the impact that my father has had in my upcoming decisions.

Sequoia
I chose to redo the texture challenge. My first was a bit uninspired and taken to fulfill the challenge. This took the extra challenge of side light into consideration with a much more complex object of a California redwood pine cone. Getting the focus correct was probably the most difficult due to the multiple layers of the cone. It’s something I want to get better at in 2026. Black and white helped to illuminate (literally) the texture of the pine cone.

Sally
The conch shell makes a return. Shot with my telephoto from about four feet away and a single light source off to the left. Edited the crop and adjusted the levels which has been my go to in these most recent challenges. I found I was relying too much on downloaded LUTs and have tried to go back to basic editing techniques to make a good photo.

Snow makes me happy
Ever since I can remember, I have always gone on a walk during snowfall. It didn’t matter if I was a little late to everything else; a walk was needed. It is especially nice on days where everyone else is inside and the world is quiet except for the faint sound of the snowflakes accumulating on the ground around you. The way the snow blankets everything in sight, the world is not only silent but pure and clean. Nature has painted her scene.

Parkside
This challenge reminded me a lot of shooting film because you honestly have no idea what you’ll get. So many of my shots were out of focus, crooked, and of particularly poor quality. What I learned from this challenge is that I can not hold my camera straight to save my life and that I should not go out at dusk to try to take a good photo. I had several shots that probably fulfilled the spirit of this challenge better, but I just didn’t feel comfortable uploading a blurry, heavily edited shot.

A Fall Evening
I went out to our local college where I found several groups of athletes out practicing. This soccer player was practicing shots on goal and the photo captured the evening and his shot perfectly.

These Boots
I was sitting facing a white wall and the boots always make for a good photo.

Focus Pro
Music is an important tool that allows me to focus my mind no matter what I am doing. From refinishing furniture to selling items on eBay, my AirPods Pro are an essential gadget for my hobbies.

Forgotten
The only thing that causes me absolute panic inducing terror is the thought of not existing. The concept of death is one my mind cannot process. It fuels my fear of being alone, of having no one who will remember me. I felt as if this broken headstone communicated that fear perfectly. It’s probably one of the saddest things to see in a cemetery.

Look at Me!
I went to a Fall Festival event Bluebird Farm Park in Hampton, Virginia this weekend. I had never been and while this event was really geared towards kids and families I got to see a really cool place. They had all sorts of barnyard animals and while in the alpaca barn, this donkey poked his head into the shadows and let out a loud “hee-haw” to let everyone know that he, too, was there.

Never on Time
I may be pushing the theme here a little, but this past week USPS has lost two of my packages that were sent out. One is gone seemingly forever, the other was returned but neither will reach their destination on time. This lone mail truck sitting behind the Phoebus Post Office was a perfect subject to help tell that story.

Red Scales
I’ve always enjoyed taking close ups of unique wall coverings. These red circular tiles in the Chick-Fil-A bathroom were no exception. #52frames_texture #52frames
What Are We Doing Tonight?
I had planned on skipping this week as I haven’t been too inspired to shoot anything the past few weeks. But I grabbed my handy mechanic’s flashlight, set up a box, and grabbed my figurine of Pinky and the Brain and here we are with a submission.

Major Tom
I have this little figurine that I found many years ago that has traveled with me all these years. He’s always stuck somewhere in my home, a little oddity in a world of normal.

A Sense of Loss
I found this abandoned Wendy’s and thought it to be quite eerie how this booster seat was left outside amongst the overgrown landscape. The building itself was fascinating with all the old signage left inside. A cool reflection shot was my alternative this week, but I felt as if the sense of loss was more resonate with this capture.
